Farmington, N.Y. (WHAM) - A photonics firm in Farmington will be adding more jobs and bringing in new equipment as part of a deal to keep its operations in New York.
TOPTICA Photonics develops and manufactures high-end laser systems for scientific and industrial uses, ranging from diode lasers, ultrafast fiber lasers, terahertz systems and frequency combs.
The company announced Tuesday it will be expanding its operations by buying $665,000 in new machinery and equipment.
As many as ten new full-time jobs are expected to be created.
The fields of biophotonics, industrial metrology and quantum technology all use the products created by TOPTICA.
Empire State Development offered up to $340,000 through the Excelsior Jobs Program in exchange for job creation commitments.
The Finger Lakes region is establishing itself as a global leader in the optics. photonics and imaging industries. Rochester is not only home to AIM Photonics, but to the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics, the Rochester Institute of Technology and to over 100 local optics, photonics and imaging companies. With the workforce, technology base and support network in place, the region is cementing itself as the global industry leader, driving economic growth in the region for generations to come as it continues to move forward.
The work is scheduled to be done by September 2020.
