A scheme which combined the tilted-pulse-front pumping (TPFP) scheme with dual-beam interference pumping was designed for modulating the terahertz (THz) wave with enhanced power. The impact of time delay and spatio-temporal chirp between the double pump beams on the characteristics of THz wave generation was investigated, and the physical mechanism was discussed. There are two types of spectral modulation of the THz wave generated by adjusting the time delay between the two pump beams. One is owing to the interference of the two pump pulses as the time delay is within the coherence range. The other is based on the spectral interference of two successively generated THz pulses at a larger time delay are out of the pump pulse duration. Besides, a simple way to continuously adjust the THz wavelength within the spectral range of the THz wave generated from direct pumping was achieved by inserting a movable slit along the cross section of the extended TPFP beam, which is equivalent to pumping the LiNbO3 crystal with different spectral components.
