TeraView, has appointed the Sanyo Trading Company as its new partner to supply and support systems in Japan
Cambridge UK terahertz technology pioneer, TeraView, has appointed the Sanyo Trading Company as its new partner to supply and support systems in Japan
The deal is designed to further strengthen TeraView’s position as the global leader in terahertz technology and forges a significant new relationship with Sanyo Trading, which has been actively involved with the supply of analytical systems and solutions for customers in Japan for almost 70 years.
Dr Don Arnone, TeraView’s CEO, sees the move as signalling a significant stage in advancing TeraView’s presence in Japan.
He said: “Japan was one of the first countries to adopt terahertz for industrial applications in areas such as pharmaceuticals and food safety and TeraView was proud to be the first solutions provider of choice for Japanese customers.
“Our relationship with Sanyo Trading is key towards expanding this activity to new industries where TeraView has demonstrated the capabilities of its unique technology and the associated business benefits to customers.”
Ken Nishimoto, division manager of Sanyo Trading Co., sees the opportunity to nudge the technology into new industrial applications. He said: “TeraView has attained an outstanding position in terahertz technology and applications with products such as the TeraPulse 4000. This advanced technology can meet with the ardent demand from across industries, including the automotive & coating industry, where customers wish to visualise material precisely.
“The measurement provided by this new technology could become the new standard in such demanding industries.” Terahertz light lies between infra red and microwaves and as such has unique properties which enables it to pass through objects and to transmit images and compositional (spectroscopic) information that is ordinarily hidden.
TeraView has demonstrated the potential of the technology in a number of applications including the detection of hidden weapons and explosives in security screening, monitoring the quality of pharmaceutical drugs, high value coatings used in automotive and other industries, as well as medical imaging of cancer.
In the semiconductor industry, Electro Optical Terahertz Pulse Reflectometry (EOTPR) is the world’s first use of terahertz to isolate the location of faults and manufacturing quality variations in integrated circuit packaging.
EOTPR has been widely accepted by the leading semiconductor manufacturers as their tool of choice for isolating defects in advanced integrated circuit packages.
