ALPhANOV Awarded Photon de Bronze At Opto 2011

ALPhANOV Awarded Photon de Bronze At Opto 2011
For the second consecutive year, ALPhANOV was the winner of a prize for innovation awarded at Opto 2011.
The award-winning product this year is a mid-infrared supercontinuum fiber laser, that the start-up company Novae will industrialize and commercialize.
From innovation to entrepreneurship
After being awarded the ‘Photon d'Argent' last year at the Opto exhibition for its Terahertz camera, the technology center ALPhANOV receives this year the ‘Photon de bronze' award for a new type of fiber laser. These awards emphasize ALPhANOV's innovation capabilities and the quality of its technological support to business development projects. Awarded products, Terahertz camera and fiber laser, will be the starting point of two new companies, Nethis and Novae. Both projects were also winners of the 2011 national competition to create innovative technology companies, supported by OSEO.
Very high brilliance laser for medical and industrial applications
The Coverage IR laser system, developed within ALPhANOV, has a very high brilliance and emits a plurality of wavelengths in the mid-infrared range. This new laser architecture is the result of collaboration with the team of Sébastien Février, professor at the XLIM laboratory at the University of Limoges and currently working at the CELIA laboratory at the University of Bordeaux. Through the use of specialty optical fibers, the average output power of the laser, distributed throughout the spectrum, reaches 1 W. This source has many applications in the field of scientific and industrial instrumentation, particularly in the areas of medical imaging, micro-spectroscopy or non-destructive testing.
About ALPhANOV
Founded in 2007, the Optics and Laser Technology Center ALPhANOV aims to boost innovation through collaboration between research and industry. It mobilizes, along with the expertise of its staff, skills of laboratories, SMEs and large companies of the Aquitaine optics and lasers industry. It contributes to the creation and development of companies by providing innovative solutions that meet their expectations. It offers an array of parallel resources and services in optics and lasers, including laser micromachining, terahertz imaging, laser components and development of optical systems.
About Photons Awards
Organized by Photoniques, the French speaking photonics magazine, in partnership with Opto Exhibition, AFOP and the French Optical Society, the Photons award innovative products in optics and photonics, developed by French teams of R & D and commercialized from less than one year. A vote involving the editorial board of Photoniques and the Opto exhibitors and visitors award the Photons to the three products recognized as the most innovative.
