Picometrix reveals
new system for web
measurement

With the introduction of the
Picometrix T-Ray 5000 at ICE
USA, Advanced Photonix offers
the first on-line industrial time
domain terahertz system for
scanning web measurement.
The T-Ray terahertz system
offers a non-nucleonic, nonionizing,
non-contacting multifunction
sensor that measures
basis weight, caliper thickness
and percent moisture in one
ultra-fast reflection sensor.
According to the
manufacturer, the T-Ray 5000
will improve users’ process
capability index, reducing
control lag on startup and grade
changes. It measures caliper
thickness directly in a noncontact
configuration without
requiring a mass composition
dependent conversion. The
T-Ray system offers the first
web-scanning sensor that
provides feedback control for an
automatic die using true caliper
thickness precise to less than
one femtosecond at the speed
of light.
