There is a new study which opens doors for new uses for terahertz, titled:
"Mammalian Stem Cells Reprogramming in Response to Terahertz Radiation"

appears to my layman's understanding to confirm that THz radiation occurs everywhere in our natural environment, it is also present in the natural black-body radiation, in the earth's atmosphere, and hence, we are naturally exposed to it daily. (I note this at the outset because Boian Alexandrov, is one of the authors of this article, who the lay community on various blogs over the net have interpreted[I believe incorrectly], that Alexandrov's earlier articles, to have concluded that exposure to THz , at the low levels of current THz scanners, damages DNA.)
This new study, funded in part by the US Dept. of Energy, Los Alamos, and Sandia National Laboratories, dealt with the cellular effect of extended exposure of genes to broad-spectrum THz radiation, from 2 to 6 hours. The authors noted that there were specific rather than global changes, in the functionality of cellular DNA.
Because the THz radiation at these levels and durations, activates certain genes, while repressing others, the authors propose that THz radiation at these levels and durations, is a potential tool for cellular reprograming.
Obviously, I am "way-out" of my league in understanding the true import of this article, but this blog is for discussion, and I wanted to include my lay interpretation, before the blogging community uses it as another example of why humans should fear exposure to THz. THIS IS MY OPINION, and please feel free to share your comments, agreements, and disagreements.
1 comment:
The peak power of the THz pulses and the long exposure time play important roles in the study.
