T-Gauge Control Unit

T Gauge Control Unit
The T‑Gauge® Control Unit (TCU) is the central component of the T‑Gauge® family of products and serves the following functions:
Sources the optical and electrical signals necessary to generate and detect terahertz (THz) pulses if the TCU is connected to THz accessories;
Transforms analog data into a digital signal that can be analyzed using the onboard processor.
The TCU is a 19 inch (483 mm) rack, wall, or table mountable instrument, consisting of an ultrafast laser, high-speed optical delay, ranging optical delay, power supplies, and signal conditioning electronics, with connectors for convenient interfacing to various optical and electronic components.  The high-speed delay included in the TCU can be chosen from a number of delay length and speed options.  A partial list of possible options includes:
320 ps delay with a 100 Hz acquisition rate(TCU5210)
80 ps delay with a 1000 Hz acquisition rate(TCU5211)
160 ps delay with a 1000 Hz acquisition rate(TCU5212)
700 ps delay with a 100 Hz acquisition rate(TCU5213)
When utilized in conjunction with Advanced Photonix T-Gauge accessories, the TCU enables the user to generate and detect pulsed terahertz energy.

Online Sensor Head

T Gauge HXC50yn Online Sensor
The HXC50yn Online Sensor Head (HX50yn) takes the robustness of the T-Gauge® to a new level with the ability to operate in industrial environments.  Reflection measurement of thickness, multi-layer thickness, basis weight, and density are easily acquired.  A variety of lens are available to adjust the measurement spot size and working distance.
The transmitter and receiver are securely mounted inside the sealed metal housing. The umbilical for the transceiver, containing the electrical and optical connections, is constructed with high flex rated electrical cable to allow continuous scanning.
When connected to a T-Gauge® Control Unit, the HXC50yn will provide excellent waveform response, capable of providing detailed reflection measurement of layered surfaces.
The Online Sensor Head is available with two different transmitter styles:
Type 1 transmitter(HXC50y1)
Type 2 transmitter(HXC50y2)
A Type 1 transmitter is used primarily for producing a pulse that will penetrate attenuating substrates, while the more common Type 2 transmitter should be used in most situations.
The working distance of the lens in the sensor head is specified by the “y” variable of the product number:
Working distance“y” value
150 mm (6 in)5
75 mm (3 in)4
25 mm (1 in)2

T-Gauge Software

T-Gauge-Recipe-Manager-Client
The T-Gauge® Software converts the T-Gauge® Sensor Configuration from a high performance pulsed terahertz system into a multi-functional gauging sensor that can measure Basis Weight, Caliper Thickness, Multi-layer Thickness, Density and Moisture Content.  The software is easy to use, and once configured, allows simple integration with your Quality Control System.

T-Gauge® Software

The T-Gauge® Software suite consists of the T-Gauge® Server, that runs on the T-Gauge®Control Unit, and the T-Gauge® Client programs, that are used to configure the T-Gauge® Server to make the measurements desired by the user.

T-Gauge® Server

The T-Gauge® Server program is used to implement a general-purpose terahertz (THz) measurement system.  The T-Gauge® Server program processes terahertz data into desired product measurement results, and passes those results to a QCS computer. The Server program is not a human-machine interface (HMI), but rather a background processor of THz data providing measurement results. Through the Server program, the THz system will appear as a sensor on a Quality Control System (QCS) and the QCS will provide the HMI.
T-Gauge System-Configuration Client

T-Gauge® Clients

The T-Gauge® Client programs (System Configuration and Recipe Manager) are the configuration and product measurement setup interfaces for the THz system. The T-Gauge® System Configuration Client program is used during system commissioning and is described in the T-Gauge® Clients Software User Manual.  The T-Gauge® Recipe Manager Client program is used to set up the desired product measurements and configurations for all products. As such, it will be used more by end users, and is described in the T-Gauge® Client Software User Manual.

T-Image Imaging Platform

T-Image-reflection-downThe T-Ray® 5000 is the first compact pulsed terahertz measurement system that is robust enough to be deployed in an industrial environment and has all of the flexibility provided by our fiber coupled sensor heads in a rack mount package.  By having replaceable sensor heads, the T-Ray® 5000 can be configured to fit your specific application.
Operating in reflection mode, the fiber coupled sensor heads deliver a picosecond duration T-Ray® pulse, allowing high speed, scanned images to be easily produced. Mounting the heads in transmission, and the sample to the translation stage allows high quality transmission images as well.
The MSL5201 T-Image Platform can be positioned for horizontal or vertical scanning.  The transmitter and receiver can be configured in transmission, or collinear reflection geometry by using the Collinear Adapter. The MSL5201 can move at speeds up to 150 mm/sec and can provide step resolutions below 75 microns.  The motors are integrated with the required amplifier and encoder to allow high quality images to be acquired at speeds up to 800 pixels per second.  The T-Image has an embedded motion controller that is configured by software running on the Terahertz Control Unit.
