Core Competencies
An exciting day, today listening and participating on the Advanced Photonix 3rd Quarter conference call. Since this is a Terahertz blog, let's start off, with the news on THz (The following are my notes and understanding of the conference call. An online recording of it, can be found here):

The first commercial sale has triggered widespread interest in the T-Ray 4000. Rick Kurtz, CEO, stated that "everyday" they are speaking to more and more potential customers, in a "wide range of industries". The alpha version of the product platform for use on the USAF, F-35 fighter jet has shipped with future sales, occurring, as the fighter gets into full production. The anomaly detection, device to be supplied to IQT, and the Dept of Homeland Security, is expected to ship in November for evaluation. Prior to that date the company anticipates the release of a new lower cost version of the T-Ray 4000, which should add to the attractiveness, to the customers of the application.
Overall, the mood of both CEO Rick Kurtz, and CFO, Rob Risser was extremely positive. Overall the company predicts minimum future growth guidance at 35% annually.
The high speed optical receiver market continues to explode, because of huge demand all over the world for increased smart-phone, and video capacity. The company confirmed that each of the following major companies are HSOR customers, in either line-side, client side, metro, long haul, or ultra long haul HSOR, or in routers, switches and transport. (WDM):
- Alcatel-Lucent;
- Finisar;
- Jdsu;
- Nokia Siemens;
- Opnext;
- Ciena;
- Oclaro;
- Huawei;
- Zte:
The company is making new inroads into the so-called, "brick" industrial markets of China, India, Russia, and Brazil, so expect more names to be added to this impressive list.
(Once again, these are my interpretations of today's Conference call. Listen to the actual call for your own confirmation, and please do your own due diligence before investing in anything.)
