The idea for this page came from my friend Bob M. of Denver, Colorado, (or perhaps some of you know Bob by his message board alias, Bobincolor.) This group is a companion to a google group, I am simultaneously, creating which is found here: http://groups.google.com/group/terahertz--advanced-photonix-api?hl=enBefore we get to discussion, let's address a few questions, that some may have.
What is my technical background to start a discussion group about Terahertz technology?(and)Why start two sites at once?
So, in regard to the first question, I have ABSOLUTELY no technical background or education, that gives me the credentials to start a group on this topic. But, I have a burning interest, and no one else has taken the "leap", so here I go. I am an attorney, I am reasonably intelligent, and I believe that Terahertz technology has the potential to revolutionize any number of industries. (Much more on that later).
I hope that by starting this group, I can attract some of my internet friends who have also taken an interest in Terahertz. Perhaps, we can attract participation, and cutting edge discussion from some of the optical engineers /scientists who are working at the forefront of Thz development. If not, then I post information to provide an additional venue for exploring this exciting technology, and making the public more aware of it.
That brings me to the second question. Why am I starting a blog/group at the same time?
Well, once again, it is curious to me, but no one else seems to have started one, (but if there are others) perhaps this will help uncover those sources as well. Ideas are contagious. That will be a primary theme of all my posts. This is a virgin technology, and hence there is a huge opportunity for not only learning about it, but also, (hopefully) to make money in the very few publically traded companies that are employing terahertz technology. The main difference between the group and the blog, is that I am focusing primarily upon Advanced Photoix on the group page. I am a serious investor in the company stock Symbol API, and hence the focus on the group will not be limited only to Thz, but will also discuss high speed optical receivers, and other API product lines. Here, I hope to invite wideranging discussion and look forward to hearing from anyone knowledgeable about terahertz.
DISCLAIMER- I AM NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ADVANCED PHOTONIX (API) OR IT'S SUBSIDARY PICOMETRIX. NOTHING THAT I POST IS AUTHORIZED BY EITHER, AND I WILL REMOVE ANY POST OR REFERENCE TO ADVANCE PHOTONIX UPON THEIR REQUEST.
Finally, I don't have the time or energy to post here everyday, and hence I hope some of you that come across this thread will post relevant information. I don't want this to degenerate into a stock message board. The API stock message board on Yahoo was the genesis, of my interest in Terahertz. However, most of the best stock related discussion regarding Thz and API, is found at investorvillage: http://www.investorvillage.com/smbd.asp?mb=4804&pt=m
So please join, if you have a sincere interest and help spread the word about this exciting technology.
Although I doubt it will happen, it would be of utmost interest to hear the views of Steve Williamson, Don Arnone, Dan Mittleman, Xi-Cheng Zhang, Qing Hu, and others. The pressing questions are the time frame for expanded use of the technology, expansion of capabilities of terahertz, cost vs. benefit, and their vision for the ultimate position of terahertz in industry and society.
